denting on an egg????

reptilechk989 Apr 15, 2005 06:05 PM

i have 5 eggs incubating in a hovabator. i recieved 2 yesterday, and i have 1 that should hatch anyday. It's "brother" passed away on the 44th day. it dented and the egg shell became bloody and clear. I figured it was dead, cuz when i opened it, it's head was in a different place.

well now that one has dented a little. its the 49th day. Is it going to hatch soon??? ive read many other posts about this and it seems that it is going to hatch. it is only denting on one side.

it's been incubated at 86-90 F. plz reply.

If its yellow then its infertile.

But denting means its about to hatch or it needs more moisture. Add some more wtter to it. Drop some water on the egg, like 3-4 drops. At 49 dyas, the thing should have hatched yesterday or any second.

But if it is yellow, there isnt a baby inside. Sorry.

Keep us updated.

Just because its yellow doesn't mean anything. I've read a few posts and heard of people thinking the eggs were infertile but the eggs still hatched anyway so don't go off and say definatly that its infertile until you're absolutly sure. That egg deserves a chance and if its been in there for 49 days already a little more time won't hurt.

Im not trying to "go off".

At 50 days and you can still see all yellow, its infertile. You may have read threads about other people, but you have no experience yourself. There yellow eggs turned red after a couple weeks and where ok. This egg should have hatched a couple days ago or NOW. It never turned red. If its still yellow after 50 days, its not a good egg. Its clutch mate sounded like a nice red one, but it didnt make it.

Sometimes you can get 2 eggs and only one be firtile.

I hope that your other eggs turn out to be fertile and as for experience I'll have plenty of it here soon. I'm expecting eggs any day now. If the eggs I'm expecting fertile thats great if not then try again when I think they're ready.

WiteLeo Apr 16, 2005 10:46 PM

At 88-90, your eggs should hatch on about day 35. Give or take a couple days.

Just as you are doing, don't give up on an egg till it smell like...

Austin is right,
If the egg is glowing yellow when you candle it after 49 days there is a very huge chance that the egg is not fertile..... Actually after 49 days, you should not be able to see much light glow from an egg that is fertile.... The baby leo inside takes up the entire egg..... At the temps you incubated at, the egg should have hatched by now..... Any eggs that I think might be infertile go in to a separate container in the incubator.... If they fuzz up, it will not affect the eggs that I know are fertile.... I always incubate eggs until I know for sure, they are not fertile....
