Blizzard Gecko Info Please?

SkynetT800 Apr 16, 2005 10:42 AM

The pet store in my area just got in a new Blizzard Gecko. I have never herd of this kind of gecko and he is very neat looking, he is all bright blue. He is also $159.99 which is like $120 to $90 more then any other gecko ever there. They claim it is very rare. I was just wondering is the Blizzard Gecko so rare? And if they are, some info on them, I have a 90 gallon aquarium available. Thanks for your input.

Blizzard is a specific genetic mutation, similar to albino (though most albinos are actually amelanistic), or patternless.

The price is a bit steep, but considering it's a pet store, not unexpected. The animal will grow up to be entirely white or very pale yellow.

That price seems too good to be true! I've seen them go for from $300-500 and sometimes even a lot more. If I had the cash right now I would swoop one of those babies up before they are gone.

Blizzard is a morph color variation of the Leopard Gecko species, not a distinct species of its own. Check out the Leopard Gecko forum on Morphs and Genetics for info.

Also, look for pics on some of the breeder's sites:

That price is very high. Blizzards are currently going for th esame price as albinos, maybe a few dollars higher. If they are selling other leos for 90 to 120 less he is at least 75 over. As an example...I will be going to White Plains (a local herp show) and will be selling an adult male blizzard for $75 to $100 and he's a really big male and very white/pink (most blizzards end up with a faint yellow tint to them). There's a male on kingsnake now for $100 (a little small for me). Look around you can buy blizzard babies for $30 to $35 from prehistoric pets and crestedgecko.com. Even with shipping it's under $100 buck for a baby.

agree, also the one in the petstore may " appear" blue due to possible use of a blue day/night lamp.
