Help - lost, lonely turtle

ebubbles0o0 Apr 16, 2005 06:09 PM

Ok, so about a week ago one of my 2 turtles (Lucy) somehow escaped to be free in the pond outside (i live in FL). I have tried to get her back, but have been unable to. Though this has greatly upset me, i am now concerned about Lucky, because she has been with Lucy since birth (5 years!). I think she may be feeling depressed or lonely.
My question is: what can I do to make her happier? should i get a new turt or two (i heard they view new turt's as competition for food and space = bad?)? If i got a new one/ones, would Lucky bully it/them (she is pretty big and a new one would be super tiny )?
Please help me help my sad turtle...
-Beth

your turtle may be lonely... but turtles fight over anything/everything! they fight over food, not enough room, territory... pretty much everything! also, if you would happen to get a new 'baby' RES turtle, there is a GREAT chance that your large turtle may EAT the baby turtle. i would say, just to be on the safe side, not to get another one! but good luck in whatever u decide

So you have seen this escaped turtle in the pond outside?

If you really want to catch it, turtle traps arent too hard to make. I just made 2 today. If you want more info, let me know.

I like to think that it is my baby that i've seen in the pond... i haven't close enough to it without it scurrying away. it liike kinda big to be mine, but i don't really know - it's better than thinking the alternative (that a raccoon took it away ) Thanks though...
