oh-no. my guys have worms

gyke Jul 10, 2003 04:19 PM

When I went to clean the tank out I found a clearish white worm about 3/4 of an inch long in some of their droppings. Non of my lizards have ever had worms before. Are they hard to get rid of? Also, is there any way to get rid of the worms without making a trip to the vet? If it ends up that I have to take them to the vet I will, but I would really like to avoid the bill which would probably cost at least $60. Thanks.

Well, only you can decide if you should take them to the Vet to be treated for parisites. If you decide not to, atleast attemp to eliminate them, as they will when to many, cause lethargy, they will not eat as well, and just a good idea to not be over run by any parasite. I purchased Parazap ! Parazap, runs about 20.00 and can be bought online just type it into any search. It has been used with great results by alot of people on the bearded dragon forum for all sorts of parasites, some swear by it. It is natural and will not harm you lizards, I mix some in their water everyday for 5 days. This can be repeated every month or when bringing in a new reptile, up to you. Like I say it is just an option. I have alot of different lizards, and I try and treat my own as a precaution so they don't get over run ! You can go and read about it and make up your own mind, but do something , as their health will suffer down the line. Eve

I agree w/eve. I use parazap on my beardies and my collared as a preventative measure. I did take them to the vet first. I have been using it on my beardies for a year now and haven't had any parasites or problems. I would take them to the vet first to make sure they don't have anything else that you aren't seeing, then do the parazap to make sure they don't get them again.

Good luck! Carrie
