What causes Blue coloration?

Mad_1234 Apr 16, 2005 11:47 PM

Hi,
I don't keep chondros but I figured you would be the guys to answer my question. My question is actually related to a Giant Day Gecko which over the past summer has undergone an amazing transformation from vivid green coloration to a sky blue which covers the back and underside and which is starting to creep onto the head and tail. My question to you is what causes this blue coloration at least in Green Trees? Is it genetic or based on husbandry methods? Also can this trait be reproduced in offspring with any regularity or is it just 1 in a million that develops this coloration? How was the blue color produced in chondros, was inbreeding involved?
Thanks for your help,
Matt
Plus here are a few pictures of him.
