Greg Maxwell's book strongly recommends to avoid sexing any GTP under the age of a year or buying one from someone who does sex under a year.

The Barkers used to do it with all of thier hatchlings. Thier are a few ways to do it, some are accurate, some aren't. Most people advise against probing because it can cause kinks; the other ways are not intrusive but are less accurate. Personally, if they come from someone I trusted, who has the patience and expertise, then I wouldn't worry about it. Other wise I'd wait a year and probe them.

Thanks Eric. I'm looking to pick up a female or two but I do not want to do anything that would harm an animal. Their safety comes first.
