Hmm? Not sure about the God thing but remember that the Geckos can look healthy but go on to develop major problems. Believe you me, I know how excited and how anxious to get your Leo. I went to my local Petco and they brought out a tank of babies that looked healthy and active. This store seems to be one of the good ones but ya know I still won't risk it and I was really tempted. I figure if the experienced people here are telling me not to get one there than they must have darn good reasons for it. Many people told me of getting sick animals there. Animals aren't disposable. If you get a sick one you need to take it to the vet and not just let it die and then get a new one, that's really not fair to the animal and whos to say that the next one from Petsmart won't die either?
When you buy these leopards off of a place like PetCo all you are doing is giving them incentive to go and buy more geckos, which keeps the cycle going.
It is not impossible to get healthy geckos from a chain store... but you have a MUCH better chance buying from a breeder.
There really is no need to buy a gecko from a chain and help their business... I can't stand going in PetCo and seeing all the sick animals.
Hell, if you want a gecko that bad, but the added expense of shipping is the problem... send me a check for shipping and I'll give you the gecko for free.

Thank you, Ross! I had told him earlier that I thought if showed us all how responsible he is, someone here may give him a leo--rather than see him buy one and watch it die. If I had one to give him, I would have already. Any 12 year old that has put this much effort into a lizard, surely deserves to have one and has earned it.
LOL, J/K, but if you want to send me a free one I won't stop you!

theres no way a baby could be healthily kept on sand

Oh, give me a break, you'd think it was cyanide instead of stuff you normally find on the ground. The percentage of geckos that will actually eat sand and become impacted is quite low. Even hatchlings. The sandy soil in their native environment would have finished them off long ago if they were that prone to it.
leos dont live on sand, sure the odd gecko is found wandering around on sand but hes probly just making his way towards a new home. wild leos are also arent neccessarily unused to sand as they are a stronger and more capable of life in the wild bloodline(s) the leos in captivity have almost all been inbred to keep a recessive trait such ach patterness or whatever
