my son found this lizard in Casey county, Kentucky. anyone have a clue what it might be?

my son found this lizard in Casey county, Kentucky. anyone have a clue what it might be?
Probably a species of skink (Eumeces).A lot of breeding males have red or orange on the head.
It does seem yo be flexible like a skink. What should I feed it?
