Feeder insects for a very small frog?

Doug89 Apr 17, 2005 02:00 PM

Im planning on purchasing a small species of frog (full grown is about 36mm) In the wild they eat ants. I emailed the importer and asked him but he hasn't responded yet. What type of insects/worms would work for a frog so small. They dont have particularyly wide mouths either. I know fruit flies are an option but i have bred them in my biology clas and they reak! Thanks!

Try fruit flies even small mouthed species such as Atelopus spumarius take them well.

How may do you have to feed a small frog and how often? I was also thinking small butterworms.

A good fruit fly culture should not stink until is it pretty far along, unless my nose has gotten use to the smell.

Just feed them and if there are flies in the tank the next day, cut back feeding. If there are none left, feed more.

Well maybe it's just the fact that we had 20 vials of em in our class room. Is there anything else to use as food for them other than the store Baught "Blue Stuff"? Like a homeade recipe or something?

It is much easier to keep and culture fruit flies using a fruit fly media (usually potato flake based).
