Reptariums outdoors?

KenW Apr 17, 2005 02:06 PM

Has anyone used those cloth reptariums outdoors? Do they hold up under exposure to the elements?

I'm thinking of trying to place some type of enclosure on my balcony or patio area when it's nice and warm. I want to give my panther some good old sunshine. His screen cage is too heavy and bulky to move in and out of the house.

Reptariums aren't terribly expensive and would be easy to break down in the winter and pack away.

What do you think?

Thanks ahead of time.

I've used reptariums outside with great results. They hold up for a couple of seasons, just make sure to wash them regularly. You're going to have some fading of the material, but how much depends on how much light they receive. The one thing you want to watch out for is wild animals, such as raccoons or cats. They might be able to chew through the cloth to get to your chameleons, although this has never happened to me.

Also, beware of ants. Some ants can be very aggressive, and chams move slowly, so watch where you set it up, and keep a close eye out for this problem.

Thanks for the warnings. I'm excited to try out an outdoor setup this summer.
