egg size

jeune18 Apr 17, 2005 02:07 PM

ok, two of gertie's eggs are huge and make all the other eggs in the incubator look like midget eggs.
one of ivan's eggs just died and i opened it and there was nothing in it but white stuff but it was the same size as ivan's other eggs and gertie's third egg.
is it normal that eggs come out such different sizes? if not, do you think that all the smaller eggs are just filled with white stuff too
the two big ones are 3 cm long and 2 cm at the widest part and are at 28 days all the other eggs are 2 cm long and 1.5 cm across and ivan's eggs are at 35 days

Its an awful thing if ya open one and find a lil baby thats alive but was not ready, and ya have to watch .... well lets NOT go there.

Anyway, If you have not seen the eggs grow at all, then it may be that they were not fertile. Usually you will see or notice they have grown. Just leave them alone, and be patient, you will soon know either way!

take the container in a dark room, and hold a tiny pen light up to the side. If you see pinkish color and tiny blood vessles. you are good. If you don't, keep waiting :O)

I have gotten impatiend on overdue eggs and had to watch little one die. Don't hold the light on too long either...they likely raise the internal temp of the egg if left on too long.
