Sexing GTF....

HD Jul 10, 2003 04:39 PM

Other than their calls, is there any way of determining sex by looking at them? I've got 4 currently and I would like to make sure I only have 1 male in the tank.
I've only heard two call at the same time, but most of the time it's just one. Two of the frogs always stay in the upper corner of the tank, 1 hides under a broken flower pot and the biggest one pretty much sits where ever it wants to......water dish, on the floor of the cage, on the large rock.....but I never see it clinging to the side of the tank. I'm figure it's at least a male, it's definitely larger than any of the others and it calls every night starting at around 5:00 pm.

Any help would be helpful.
I'll work on getting some photos loaded up and posted.
Thanks

Males are generally smaller than females. Males will have nuptual pads where there "thumb" is very dark brown, and their throats will be brownish in color. And males will call.

Thanks. I'll see if I can spot the different items you listed. I'll also see if I can take a few photos of them and post them this weekend.

Actually, I've never been able to find any nuptial pads on my green tree frogs, so if they're there, they're hard to see. Anyway, if you compare the throats of the ones you know are males (the ones calling) and the ones that haven't, you will probably be able to tell which are which, though
