anyone have any ideas on a knock-down cage

reamk924 Apr 17, 2005 04:34 PM

I move a lot and need some hints on building an easy cage I can take apart fairly easily. It would be for an iguana. I am looking at dimensions of 4x4x6. Any hints, suggestions, ideas?

Thanks

i have a friend that has a nice cage that breaks down really easy... he used large dowl rods and drilled in holes in the bottom of the board and connected it like leggos....

you need to use several dowels and make sure they are nice and long for it to be sturdy...
good luck

There is specially made knock down hardware for this purpose. You have probably seen this if you have ever had to assemble pre fab furniture in a box. The fasteners consist of a metal stud that screws into one piece and a 1/4 turn cam that fits into a hole drilled in the other. You just turn a 1/4 turn with a screw driver and the fastener will lock and unlock the two pieces. Go to rockler.com and search for knock down hardware. They should even have some install directions.
I think you are looking at about $4 or $5 for a set of 4.
If that is the route you want to take I am sure we could help on the design.

What size? The Visionarium can be broken down with 8 screws but it only comes in 20 long and is not that inexpensive, I use them as display cages cause they stack nice.

sorry, they are supposed to be designing larger ones in the future.
