My cousin's dad just got her a lizard that he took from a cat's mouth at a yard sale. She doesn't know what kind it is and she's got him in a tank with a hot rock. She doesn't know what he eats or if he needs special lighting like most lizards do. She doesn't even know if it's a lizard, an anole, or a gecko. She's had him for almost 3 days now. I told her not to feed him anything from outside, and to take him to a petshop ASAP to find out what he is. She said she'll take him in a week, but he could be dead by then if he doesn't have everything he needs! She said he's about 4 inches long not including his tail, he turns a tan color when it's light and he's darker when it's not, he has some spots and a line down his back. He has 5 toes that are kinda sticky with claws. Can anyone help before the poor thing dies?

Where are you located? Is it possible to take a picture of him and post it here or email it? This would go a long way in helping you out. I would also remove the hot rock as they can get too hot and burn the lizard.

Well, she doesn't have a scanner, and she isn't doing very much on trying to find out what it is. She lives 3 hours away from me, so it would be kind of hard to take a picture with my digital. I sent her a few pictures of different anoles but she says they aren't it. And she also told me that the kind of lizard isn't from around there (But how could she know that if she doesns't even know if it's even a lizard?) so it might have been someone's pet. I'll tell her as soon as I talk to her to take the rock out of there. And she just doesn't really seem to care. I had to stop her from feeding it random worms she found outside.

OK thanks for trying to help, my sister helped her find out what kind it was. Good thing too. Thanks anyways!
