Neutering males to help with aggression

MissMiniZoo Apr 17, 2005 08:45 PM

Have any of you neutered your male iguanas? If so, has it helped with aggression?

There have been a lot of aggression-related neuters by now. From what I read in the various forums, the results are unpredictable. Some iguanas remain unchanged.

Note that the testes are not the only organ that excretes testosterone. Some people wonder whether that is the reason why those particular neutered igs remain aggressive.

A testimonial from a person whose iguana was calmed by neutering has no statistical merit. But I must say, from the stories I read, if I had one of thtose hyper aggressive iguanas I'd probably have the procedure done on him.

My Ig was getting so crazy in his breeding season that he was hurting himself. Had him neutered in July three years ago. The first season after he had his moments but was a lot better. He was a little better the next season and this year he hasn't been aggresive at all.
