ARE ABERRANT STRIPING IN OUTER BANKS KINGS COMMON?

snakesdjf Apr 17, 2005 09:09 PM

hello, some of my hatchling Outer Banks Kings have some striping and broken chain patterns. Their parents are high speckled(jim kane stock)i was wondering if this is common in the OBK's to have some babies hatch out with aberrancies. i do remember years ago. years ago i bought an aberrant OBK which was selling much more money than the normal OBK's. However, i winded up giving it away to a friend, because the person i bought it from later told me that he wasnt sure if it was a pure OBK. any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks again dj

Jim Sargent at "Split Rock Reptiles" also has Kane stock and mentions on his web page that he sees occasionally gets aberrant hatchlings as well. I worked with two pair of Kane stock Hatteras Outer Banks kings and never saw these in my years of hatching out babies.
Carl Bartlett also had a line of Outer Banks Kings that were aberrant and also produced aberrant babies. I believe that Keith Hillson may know more about these.
As far as price goes, I would think that the aberrant babies would command a higher price. Keith Hillson will probably expound on this subject a bit more.........

The aberrant OBk's seemed to be more common from Bartletts stock. These popped up from his colony after a little back breeding. As far as the snake you purchased in the past being pure OBK then that would depend on who you purchased it from. If it was me or Carl originally then it was 100% OBK. Post some pics of your baby OBK's we would love to see them . Did you hatch them out last year ?
