How tame can an arboreal monitor get?

reamk924 Apr 17, 2005 09:46 PM

I have a 2' blue tail. She (i think) spazzes when I take her out of the cage then settles after a couple minutes unless something scares her. She will also fall asleep in my hands after a while. My question is; how tame can I get her if I keep holding her every day? Would I ever be able to take her out without her going nuts?

I think they discussed this at length below but i'll summarize for you. When your monitor goes to "sleep" it is actaully just giving up because you have forced it into submision. Handling it all the time is not the best way to tame it. If you leave it alone and resist the urge to hold it, it will come to you on its own eventually. Handling them stresses them out for the most part. The best thing to do is let them define the terms of your interaction. Check out the post below for more explanation if you want.

Good luck,

Steve
