alligator snapper

hey guys i have recently acquired a bay alligator snapping turtle..n i haf a few qns.
1.my turtle seems to eat commercial turtle food..is it possible to raise it on turtle food?also it doesnt eat wen i m looking at it,wheter fish or turtle food.is this normal?
2.do they actually need substrate?i keep mine in a barren tank wif shallow water and a few pieces of corkbark cos its v difficult 2 clean as i haf no filter.
3.is there a way to filter really shallow water?

A fluval filter will filter as little as 3 -4 inches of water.

They are really hardy, so no substrate won't affect them. I feed mine commercial food, too, and it eats it without any problems. You probably want to vary it's diet over time, with stuff like chicken livers and other food items. Mine eats when it feels like it, whether I'm watching it or not, but they usually eat at night in the natural settings, so it may wait til then.
