Corn Housing???

amoeba14 Apr 17, 2005 11:22 PM

What is the best housing for corn? I currently have mine in a 10 gallon tank and was thinking of bumping up to a 20 gallon. Are there other options that are better? I'd like the cage to be somewhat on display. Thanks for the help.

The housing depends ona few things... How big is your corn? The tank should be about half as long as the snake... Basically 10 gallon for jeuvenile and young adults in a 10 and adults in a 20. Make sure that your tank doesn't have TOO much open space otherwise it will stress out the snake. They like feeling somewhat confined. Other than those basic rules you can use basically anyhting u want to house your snake. Somebody was thinking about using an old T.V. a while ago that was gutted out. The most important things to concider are the ventilation and that it is more or less escape proof.

I wouldn't say they like being confined, moreso that they like having places to hide. If they liked being confined, why would they want to escape? Saying they like to be confined I really feel is just flat out wrong. They want to feel secure and when they're in a big bare tank, then they're not secure, therefore highly stressed and probably wont eat. you CAN put them in a bigger tank, but you will need ot nearly pack it full of foliage.

I have a juvie corn (31 inches long!) in a 40 gal, and would like to put her in my bf's 60 gal when she is full grown.

So she doesn't feel vunerable or stressed, I have a bunch of fake foliage, a bunch of different types of hides, and some sanitized driftwood (good to help her start shedding!)

My snake hides a lot during the day, but is very active at night & even does some climbing.
