Fun with bloods

apeilia Apr 17, 2005 11:41 PM

My pair of adult bloods are usually so well behaved. It was feeding day yesterday and the only rats I could get for them were med (labeled as large) so they were still hungry. Anyway, I was putting the male's hiding place back in after he ate and he got a hold of my thumb and wouldn't let go. I haven't been bit by either of them since they were younger (and smaller) so it was a bit of a surprise! It was 100% my fault though and he's still easy to handle - at least once he knows you're not food...

Here's my thumb the following day. I didn't expect it to be so bruised (?).

Oh that looks like that felt good.I've been wondering myself how a bite will feel from one of my larger bloods. What size of blood was that one?

It was an adult male, around 4.5ft ? (haven't tried measuring him in a while).

Ouch, I have never been bitten by any of the baby bloods around here, even out of the 21 hatched last year, go figure I guess, or any of the current ones, although the ones you have to watch out for are the pair of adult borneo's, they were aggressive adults when they came here though, and if given the chance will give ya a few good bites. I really don't want to be tagged by them, but if it happens it happens, don't think I would want to be tagged by any adults though.

Yeah, I know. It’s just a little blood. But dang, I was impressed! Anyway, may I suggest that everyone keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol close by for use in convincing a snake to release its grip during a feeding accident? It really works. Of course, reaching the bottle and then unscrewing the cap may be somewhat difficult if the snake is of moderate size and one of your hands is in its mouth.

I didn't think to take any that night, but they do bleed alot. Mine wasn't hard enough to go through the nail though. That looks like it hurt!

That looks like a freak sewing accident! I almost got tagged the other day cause I'm an idiot (hey lets get the big boy some fresh water after I just ate chicken!)
