I was out in Madison County yesterday, and I was lucky enough to find two milksnakes in my first five minutes. One was a brightly colored juvenile, and the other was a somewhat bland adult. However, the rest of the day I got skunked.

I'm a little concerned. Usually I'll find a ton of ringnecks, timber rattlers in a variety of sizes, a worm snake, prairie kingsnake or a black rat snake. However, all I found were the two milks. Has anyone been out around Winterset this year? Am I too early or too late? Usually, mid to late April is when you can find high densities leaving the limestone crevices.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. You can email me at:

Thanks,
Noah

If you can find that much in a single day in Iowa, then your lucky. I live in Des Moines, so I dont see much of the good stuff around here. I have noticed that there are no longer any bull snakes on my side of town. Havent seen any for a few years, and they were once easy to find. This was before I even liked findind herps
