Hey - I have been a bit out of touch the last few days...well, right now she is outside in the sun soaking up the rays. got her out for a bit yesterday, too, then set her up in the window for about an hour.

We are back to the vet tonight. I want x-rays, blood work and sub-q fluids and also see if I can do the fluids at home. She is drinking costantly. She will go to her dripper and open her mouth wating for me to turn it on. I know they should have TOO much water but how can I refuse her? I am worried that there is kidney damage. I am also getting really worried about my bank account. I keep thinking of "waiting" but there seems to be multiple problems. Her edema is coming back and form what? the excess water? a vitamin A problem? I have no frigging idea! (can I say that?)

She has gained 22g in just over a week! I am afraid she will not have the strength to lay, but her grip feels better on that back leg.

I was hoping someone would give me some insight on my "Could it be the water..." post below, but no one has. I am just at such a loss as to why she is having these problems. I am not doing anything different than anyone else. I am depressed and frustrated.

thanks for asking, sorry for the ramble...

I wanted to reply to your water question below but asked my QA at my research lab at work and she told me that high copper in the water can cause GI distress short term and long term can cause kidney and liver damage...high iron is not considered a health risk....don't know if this helps..

Hi, Thanks for that. I should re-read Brita to see just what it filters out. I will try giving her bottled water until I get our water tested. I was doing the pedialyte but then get concerned about the salts and kidney problems. I just want a definitive assessment on her - there is an exotic animal vet that I think (have heard) knows chams but he is really far away. I may ask my vet to confer with him if we don't get some more answers. At least tonight I will know what is going on in her little belly - 22g in 8 days! Her laying tub is waiting...

I'll post tonight when we get back.

thanks

Lele,
You always try your best to help others, so it is difficult to see you having such a troublesome time with your girl. I sure hope she makes it through laying, so you have a chance to go from there. It seems to have snow-balled with each successive clutch. As Sonia said, she was always smaller, different, etc. I have not had this experience myself, though I did breed veileds for a while before moving to carpets. I go very light on everything...feeding 3 times a week in small amounts and using any calcium sparingly. Clutches, fertile or not are generally smaller (with infertile clutches being about 12-19 eggs and fertile in the 20-35 range if I'm lucky). I wish I knew what to say, but I'm pulling for you. It's plain to see how much you care about her!

Wish I knew what to say, but I am the one always asking the questions
You were so nice and helpful to me and she is such a beautiful cham.
I hope it goes well

You have been a very good owner. Luna is just tiny and has always been different from her sisters. You have given her a great home. If she does not make it it is not your fault at all.
Poor baby she is just an egg machine.

I have a couple of "different ones" One that I have been hand feeding and watering for years. I think he is blind. He will never be as healthy as the others and when he passes, well I did the best I can by him. He would have been toast in the wild.
The rotten thing is these are the ones that capture out hearts because we spend so much time giving them the extra care they need so I know how it hurts when they are doing badly.
