Thank you Eric,

I appreciate that. I do have to say that EVERYONE, no matter who has been a beginner and then as they get more and more knowledge, they become better at what they do. Many people put bigger breeders on a HUGE "celebrity" like Status. The truth is that the bigger people have just been doing it longer. That is great to tell people you appreciate what they have done. I owe a lot of my knowledge and help to many many people. And to be honest, just as many people that don't have near the experience or collection I have. Little guys have ALSO taught me an AWFUL lot about the business.

We are all on different levels. The BEST way to get ahead in this business is not to BUY the most expensive collection or find a MASSIVE RICH relative. (Although nothing wrong with that, and that could Help). The ONLY way to really feel satisfacation is through experience. Every year you learn more and more, and that is the KEY to really being successful. Also, many can learn a lot faster then others.

Here is one KEY to my Success (If you want to call it that). 1. LOVE of the animals. I have had them since I was 4 and only been without for 2 years since. 2. A family that is supportive. You can't do this without Family support. Especially a wife. They should probably be number 1. After that, I try to surround myself with GOOD people that I feel are honest and try hard. We all make mistakes and wish we could take back a few things. However, the ONLY way you can last making a living in the busines are the 3 things I mentioned. There are MANY MANY other little factors that do contribute, and it would be a FUN post to have others list things that help them or give ideas as to why they are able to even be in snakes!!!!!

Eric, One day, if you have the love, you'll be in a situation where many will ask you for advice too. We all have to start somewhere. I appreciate your post. It can also be embarrising for accepting a completment, but thank you.

Here are the Negatives of the Business. 1. You can't get along with everyone, and no matter WHO you are and what you do, there will be those who just won't like you and think you are CRAP. There is a LOT of Jelousy. That is human nature. I have been that way in the past myself too, and I'm trying to stay positive about EVERYONE now.

Of course there are a Few that just SUCK no matter what you try to do!!!! You try to be nice, but they just blast you everytime they talk about you. These people are Linda Hedgepeth, Mike at Basically Boas, Tracy Barker, Shane Kinney, Alex, etc.... I could go on but I don't want to list 2/3rds of the Business!!! LOL JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLLLLLLL

I do think Jelousy Sucks Though. To make a long post not be longer, THANK you Eric. I bet you'll do well in the Hobby/business because you have the LOVE and you desire Knowledge. That will serve you well, and in a few years it will be even better for your self esteeme when people produce babies from Babies you produced, and they tell you have happy they are, that they bought from you. That is an AWESOME feeling.

You'll make mistakes Eric, but if you REALLY are honest and fair with your customers, then you can't go wrong. Many of the GREAT big breeders like them or not have gotten there becuase they have been HONEST and Fair with the Customers. You can slip a little on accident, but if you do, try to make it right!!! That is one thing I feel I can say I have tried hard at. IF someone feels I ripped them off somehow, I have always tried to take care of it in a fair way. If there are those out there that disagree, Please let me know, and I'll try to make it right. I'm sure that is the EXACT same way, Pete, VPI, Sutherlands, Ralph, ect................ have run their business.

Knowing you try your best to be honest, you can look yourself in the mirror and feel good.

Jeremy

...WOW, This is great! I LOVE the fact that us "little guys" have the means (this forum) to chat with and gain experiences/info from the "big boys"! The time you spend responding on KS is much appreciated and benefits many more than just the "addressed" forum participants. I've been "lurkin'" here for some time now, and have posted very little, but have learned a TREMENDOUS amount!! Thanks to yourself, Frank Martin, Robert Baker, and John Michael (among many others!), who have all take many calls and spent many hours on the phone with me, I hope to also put myself in a position to "quit my day job" and concentrate on this "hobby" that has become almost an addiction. The time/knowledge you all share with us is priceless, IMO, and I just wanted to take the time to thank you all personally. Further thanks go to my wife, who has been supportive, patient, and understanding of the investments I've made. Without her support, I would still have just "a couple of Rosys". LOL. Anyway, I've rambled on way to long.

Thanks all, for your time! I hope to meet as many of you as I can (in Daytona) and pick your brains.

Thanks Again,

Scott
