Thermostats

SnakeSmith Apr 18, 2005 08:16 PM

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to pick up another thermostat at the White Plains, NY show this weekend and wanted to know what the general opinion is on which is the best. Is there neccesarily a best one? I have a Helix DBS on a melamine rack and it seems to work very well, but i'm wondering if I could be using a less expensive thermostat on it. That way I could use the Helix on an incubator, which is more critical of accurate temp. If I am to buy another thermostat of decent quality, what would you recommend, another Helix or maybe a Herpstat, Ranco, Big Apple, etc.? Thanks for your responses!

Take care,
Glenn

Glen,

I haven't been to the White Plains show in a while, but I think I might go this weekend though.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing any thermostats for sale there.

As for alterative units, I have used Ranco thermostats on my racks for a few years, and have had no problems.

I heat the room with an oil filled heater (also on a Ranco) for supplemental heat when needed.

I have been happy with them so far, and I get the units for about $45.

Good idea to use your proportional on your incubators though.
