temperment of the b.dragon?

dragonvet Apr 18, 2005 09:15 PM

has any one here ever been bitten by the bearded dragon? are they agressive reptiles? from all that i have read so far about them it does not seem like they are bad or ill tempered. however my sis seems to think they are on an agressive leval like the monitor or the tegu. i am just trying to insure her that bearded dragons are really good with people like my leopard gecko's are. any one's advece would be helpfull thank you.

both of our adults are very laid back and tame. Our female displays some attitude occasionally--but has NEVER attempted to bite anyone. We handle our beardies daily.

If you hand feed a hungry beardie you may get nipped--but rarely will it break the skin.

I trust my baby with both of our beardies. Here is the proof!

On average, bearded dragons are very docile. However, this doesn't mean they won't bite. Fortunately their bite isnt' too hard, especially with babies. Once they are acclimated and used to being handled, bearded dragons are quite calm sitting on a lap, in your arms etc. Older bearded dragons (9months and up) can bite hard enough to break the skin but they don't have nowhere near the biting power of monitors.

I have read that they can carry that but there should be no problem as long as you wash well after handling them or their stuff...I have also heard that for a normal adult it would not make you very sick...just to be careful with the young or ill...although I'm sure more experienced owners here can better advise you...alsso, I know there are bearded dragon sites that discuss this...
