Escaped Cal King In the House ! Lessons To be Learned....

Dolemite Apr 18, 2005 11:57 PM

I screwed up and left the cage door ajar. My 5 foot,11 year old Cal King got out. If you keep snakes over 5 years, I guarantee this will happen to you eventually. I immediately had the thought that.. this is a burrower, he will go down ,not up. Nevertheless I spent 4 hours searching the whole house because of my wife's panic attack. They do not climb as a rule. They seek darkness and cover below. Sure enough after one day,I saw him 3 foot away from his cage beneath some floor boards and cardboard in the snake room. I immediately closed the doors to this 20 foot by 4 foot snake room. 8 hours later he had resurfaced and was hanging on his cage. Whether it was the corn and other Cal King in the same room -who knows? He was cordoned off and is now in his cage. They will come out eventually. I do not have any vents he could reach although I was worried about the fireplace. Then again King Snakes do not climb that much. Had he been a rat snake ,forget it. I told my wife that it is hard to miss a 5 foot King- She said screw that- just find it!!!
