Heating a Big Cage

Pecos_Bill Apr 19, 2005 01:55 AM

I recently got a big screen cage for my veiled--48x24x24. For heat, I have a 150 watt tight beam on top, a 60 watt day-glo on the side (high, toward the basking spot), and a 100 watt day-glo on the same side (toward bottom).

The thing is this--with so much ventilation, I can't seem to get the ambient temp (away from basking spots) above room temp (70 in winter). Is there some trick to keep some more heat within the cage? Should I heat the cool side as well? Is ceramic of infra-red a better heat source (project further) than the day-glo bulbs?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

If the cage has a spot or two in the mids 80's and areas that cool off in other parts of the cage, no problem. As long as the cage isn't cold everywhere, the cham will find a comfortable spot.
