Coconut Fiber Chunks

wrangler2 Apr 19, 2005 02:17 AM

My local specialty petstore showed me a product they say is new. It is large chunks of coconut fiber (looks like bark) that they say is suitable for leopard geckos. They say it is too large to ingest.

I mostly keep frogs and the eco-earth that comes in bricks has also been suggested if you allow it to dry out after expanding it.

I currently use the repticarpet. I find that the crickets get underneath the carpet. I have tried a number of weighing down techniques and yet the crickets still manage to get under the carpet and grow and hide.

Any suggestions?

I would be wary of any particle substrate for leos. You could try non-ahesive shelf liner, of which i have no personal experience, but have heard nothing but good comments on. Or lineolium(sp?) cut to fit the tank snuggly, this plugs up any gaps where the crickets might crawl under. Lots of people have sucess with tiles. And if you really want a particle substrate and your leo is over 12months you can always go with washed, screen, fine-grain play sand from home depot.
