colour change

mjf Apr 19, 2005 03:47 AM

Greetings, I would like to know if my pregnant yellow which is quite dark all the time now will get lighter after partuition. I hope she lightens up again.

The darker coloration in gravid boids is typical as a means of heat absorption and will change back to normal some time after parturition. Yellows range into higher latitudes, (farther than 30 degrees south), than most boids and so probably have a greater ability to darken and absorb as much excess heat as possibly. Additionally, the given species name "notaeus" is Greek for southern. Good luck with her.

Thanks Kelly, she is about 8ft and 35lbs, she was kept with the male for about 3 days Nov 30 Dec 2. Such a southerly latitude then make them hardier temp wise then greens I would think. I give her a 170g rat every 4days which she takes with zeal. If I have a digi by then It`d be a pleasure to post pics, kept snakes off and on for 15yrs, this is the first time I`ve tried to breed anything. Good luck with yours, but I don`t think you need it.

I would also think that they are much more tolerant of cooler temps. I have seen a lot of breeding activity with the greens over the last few weeks, so hopefully we will have some young later in the year. Please post photos of your yellows when you get a chance. Thanks,

Kelly
