TX Press: Game wardens forced to shoot alligator

Apr 19, 2005 08:44 AM

BRAZOSPORT FACTS (Texas) 16 April 05 Game wardens forced to shoot alligator (Michael Wright)
West Columbia: Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night.
Her neighbors in Bar X Ranch had been telling them they had seen a giant alligator in the bayou that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations.
“I didn’t believe it,” Charles Rogers said.
Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast, which measured 13-feet, 1-inch long.

Sadly this happened ten minutes from my house and I have been answering questions as to why I did not capture this animal for them.

The simple reason, I was not called or I gladly would have moved it. What I find distressing is the animal allowed the man within 3ft before he shot it. Had my team got that close we could have saved a very impressive animal who had harmed no one.

Shame.
