Thanks Tom- Black-Heads are actually pretty easy to work with. I am still working on my Womas-my female should be prime for next year. Hope to see you soon! Jim

Very nice large clutch, My large female only laid 11 eggs this year.

How do you incubate your eggs? I'm having problems with them and I lost some, they grew mold and died.

Thanks for your help and keep up the good work.

Steven.

Healthy Black-Head egg incubation is pretty straight forward. I use a 32 quart sterilite tub with a lid on it. The medium I use is perlite mixed with water 1:1 ratio (ex. 1000 grams of perlite to 1000 grams of water). Put that in the bottom of the tub. Place plastic light grating (Home Depot) over that and place the eggs on top of the grating. The key is to have 100% humidity surrounding the eggs but do not have the eggs in direct contact with moist substrate. Incubate at 89 degrees. Be sure to oxygenate the container once a day by opening the lid. I use an old refrigerator lined with 11" Flex Watt heat tape riggged to a Helix thermostat for an incubator. It works great. Last year I had a 100% hatch rate.
