What size Vision cage for my ball python? Please!

kestrien Apr 19, 2005 03:34 PM

Which model of Vision cage is the cheapest, best for a single ball python? I try to be the best reptile mommy I can, but money is very much an issue here.

I have 2 balls currently living together, and everyone has told me they need to be separated. I was going to buy a new cage anyway, so that means I need to buy two.

So:

1) What size cage for a single ball python (best, but cheapest!)

2) What type of heating can I use? The smaller vision cages (at lllreptiles) say 'undertank heating only.' I've heard a lot about the RHPs; can I use those with the smaller cages? What size would go with what size cage?

3) Does anyone think it's ok for 2 to live together? (2 males, both about 3). What size cage for them?

Please, please help. I need to get this taken care of, because all I do it worry about it.

Here with me in Misery:
2 ball pythons (Sly & Gryff)
2 leopard geckos (Ripley & Leila)
1 hedgehog (Puck)

Left behind in Cali:
2 horses (Jack & Chex)
1 dog (Dolly)
1 cat (Maddy)
Lots of cows!

The Model 221 (I think I have that right) is 28"W x 24"D x 12"H. You could house a male BP in there easily, and the price is right.

Because of the low height of this cage, undercage heating is certainly a way to go. However, I have used the 11" x 11" radiant heat panels in this cage just fine for an adult female spotted python. Just make sure you use a temperature controller. A proportional unit works great for this purpose.

Or you could go with the 3ft cage if you want more room. Ball pythons seem to like small enclosures though.

I agree that the 221 is a good cage for ball pythons, even a large female could be housed in one (although a three footer would be better).

I think that undercage heating is better for BPs anyway, so the lack of overhead heating vents isn't a problem, IMHO.
