Eye problems..

tevans Apr 19, 2005 05:33 PM

I posted before about my female basilisk being sick. She's much better now, just recently started back onto "solid" food. When she was sick, she kept her eyes closed a lot, especially her left one. Now, her right eye is fine, but the left has a layer of "gunk" overtop it, and it's almost scabbish around the edges. I haven't messed w/ the eye too much, the vet cleaned it and forced it open when I had her at the vet's. Just curious if I should try to clean it off or let it clear up naturally. She wasn't able to see out of it most of the time, but noticed tonight she's reacting to movement on that side now, so think she can see some thru it.

It won't hurt her to soak the eye with warm saline solution to loosen and remove the gunk. I would do it at least once daily. If she has an infection in the eye, she will probably need antibiotic drops for a few days to clear it up, but give it a few days of the saline soaks to see if it will ckear up on it's own. usually they have gotten some substrate in their eye and sometimes it takes several tries to clean it out.
