Dragon drowned

neilm Apr 19, 2005 07:04 PM

I feel the need to warn people. After soaking some of my animals yesterday I found one dead in it's cage 10 minutes later. The water was not deep and she was OK when I put her back in the cage. I spoke with Rob Dachiu and he had the same thing happen to him a while back. This was a holdback female that I had been waiting to breed to get some beauties. I'm bummed, but don't tell any of my snake buddies. Lol

I just thought I would share this info. Watch out.

ps. Sympathy cards can be delivered to my table at the White Plains show. Lol. Look for the white tent.

Juan, I will have dragons at the show. I didn't post for bizz though. I just thought it was something people should consider before soaking their dragons. I'm really not sure if she drowned or what, but all my other dragons I soaked are fine, and she was in perfect health before I soaked her.

Sorry about your loss. Did you have a vet look at her to dtermine cause of death? Thanks for passing this on. I had never heard of anything like this before.

I don't soak my male because he's scared to death of water so maybe it was a heart attack from stress if your beardie hated water. My female on the other hand loves to swim and can't get enough of the water but you can never really tell whats going on, on the inside just from looking at the outside. I'm really sorry about your loss.

...what did it die from? Had he taken in water and aspirated? Sorry if I am being ignorant, I just am not getting it :-/

I really have no clue what killed it. I would take it to a vet, but I'm not convinced they can tell me anything for sure. My guess is that it got water in it's lungs. It was probably just a freak thing, but I may never soak a dragon again.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Listen, I breed reptiles for a living, I can only imagine how some of my customers would feel if they lost their only dragon that they love. That's why I made this post.

Where are you located? Do you have a website? Your dragons are beautiful!

Leslie, I do all the shows in the northeast, including White Plains this weekend. One of these days I will finally set up a website.

I am very glad you did post it and I suppose not knowing the cause will make folks (me!) even more cautious. My little guy is too young to bathe but will take precautions once he does.

thanks!
