What do do with my green eggs.

Joeycoco98 Apr 19, 2005 07:35 PM

This is my first time breeding my Florida Kings or any snake for that matter. I provide a lay box for her but she choose to lay between the mesh and plastic of her cage. Some of the eggs had a spot on them that was almost see through. Now some of the eggs have green mold on them. They are still white but getting this green mold. I am now leaving the lid to their box open to allow for more evaporation. Is there anything I can do to help the eggs survive? The eggs are currently in moist perlite.

Thanks in advance,
Miller

This yr was my first for breeding... but i read some where that you can swab the "moldy" area with diluted Listerine... hope that helps...

Thanks Z., I was not sure it the mold meant the eggs were good or bad. Did you have any eggs that had patches that were not white, seems like they have colored over just never read anything about that in the forums.

No Prob... my female seems gravid (she just mated last week)... but no eggs as yet... i do think if the eggs were bad the entire egg would look weird...

I had a few with green mold last year. Dont try to seperate them, I just left them alone and they hatched. Youll know if the eggs are bad, theyll shrink up. matt

Thanks for the info. I figured as long as they are still "plump" they are probably ok.

hey miller,
hang in there remeber that time i told you i had an egg get black w/mold and still made it just fine good eggs can withstand mold pretty good even surrounding eggs going bad. keep your temps up around 80 try to maitain 85-100%humudity but also provide fresh air (i open the lid and fan mine daily or everyother day)make sure your perlite isnt to moist usually 1to1ratio is good if you sqeeze it and water drips its to much. anywhoo best of luck w/them again dont give up on looks alone you will be suprised what can pop out of moldy eggs if overly concerned i have used tenactin(foot fungus powder)w/success before stopped the mold and egggs made it, so ?

P.S.
heres the parents to your female going again in '05 female is due to drop around the 5th!

Thanks for the Info. I actually removed a lot of the moisture form the perlite when I say the green. It looks like the green mold is under control now. I am having difficulty keeping the temp up, should I invest in an incubator or is there another alternative?

Bad news on the female you gave me, she got out. I think my roommate may have had something to do with it but who knows. I think I am giving up on raising the kings from babies! I will get adults from now on. My mice are producing again. I will let you know when the population explodes so you can clean them out again.

bummer she was smoker!oilwell more this year soon! ,on your temps dont worry to much try and keep it around 80 best ya can but flucuation happens!unless ya do have an incubator i personally have never used one i place mine in top of a closet that holds temps fairly well ranging between 72/73 up to 82/83 and have allways been succesfull, remember the waiting is the hardest part and again mold or not good eggs will hatch if left alonegood luck and ttys,,,,,,,thomas
