Mountain chorus frogs as pets

kayjewells Jul 10, 2003 06:00 PM

Today someone gave my 7 year old 2 tiny frogs. He wants to keep them as pets. I have an old aquarium that I could use but I need info on the easiest way to feed them. I have identified them as mountain chorus frogs. I would like for him to be able to observe them reproducing and growing from tadpoles into frogs. Any info would be helpful. I am not sure what sex they are. Any information on how to tell that would be helpful also. Thanks.

I can't find a care sheet on the internet on the species, but I'm sure you can get help from someone at talkto.thefrog.org with this.

For now, just keep it in an enclosure similar to its environment (temperature and humidity wise), feed it crickets, and make sure your child doesn't handle the animals, or poke on their glass. Use only dechlorinated water, and change it every day or two to keep it clean. Good luck, and hope to see you at thefrog.org
