building a cage in my back yeard

im thinking about building a cage in my back yard for some hornd lizards and collard lizards maybe even a few chucks. i live in the high desrt in so cal. i have a pair of wc hornd lizards and a pair of wc collards. i want the cage to be about 15long by 4 wide and 4 high. i was thinking about makeing the back and side out of wood and the front and top wit some kinda of chicken wire. this would be the first cage ive made so im looking for some info. any info would help me greatly. thanks Joey

Joey,

The chameleon forum might be the best place to ask this question even though you did not mention having them. A lot chameleon keepers make cages that can withstand the rigors of outdoor use and can be rolled back and forth.

At a minimum get vinyl coated wire mesh. Maybe with a 1/4" opening for the smaller species you keep. You want the mesh to be small enough to keep the lizards in but large enough to allow insects in and not disrupt ultraviolet transmission.

You might need different sized mesh for different species to prevent claws from getting stuck, etc.
