A Pope is a Pope is a Pope....

rearfang Apr 20, 2005 08:08 AM

Figured this might kick some life back into the forum....

The new Pope (not to be confused with Eggs Benedict-or the Arnold of the same name)is here.

The geniouses at the Vatican elected an ex Hitler youth, army deserter-who is a firm believer in, if you don't follow the doctrine of the church, (or show sympathy for anyone who does)you should be sent home without their cookies.

I'm talking excommunicated friends!

The true genious here, is at a time where newer religions that are more sympathetic to the people's needs are reducing the power of Catholisim in the west, these fools hire the biggest hardline conservative in the whole Vatican!

It's all that red folks (red being a stressful color as you may have heard). Could it be that the Cardinals were too strssed to think straight?

LOL Frank your too much.

Actually John Paul was a GOOD Pope compared to ones in the past.
He spoke out aginst the war, but failed to order Catholics to resist it and not be involved in it in anyway(Would have gotten him assasinated no?)

He attempted to heal the divide between Catholicism and other religous persuasions be they Christian or not.

The newy guy? More conservative? More hard lined?

The only thing that I wonder is:

Will he help enable Child Molesting priests to continue to operate under the cover of secrecy and move them around?

And...will he bless the troops?

Instead of asking for an END to this wrongfull and evil war effort?

Mmmmmmmmmm.....votes anyone?

Fred Albury

PS
Good one Frank

The new pope is the former chief of the catholic dogmatic congregation (I hope I have translated it correctly) which was known until 1917 (or so) as the Holy Office, responsible for the Holy Inquisition.

A chief of the catholic dogmatic congregation needs to be a conservative, because conservation is his duty.

Furthermore, it can't be the task of the catholic church to adjust it's doctrine to the spirit of the times.

Just look at this: 30 years ago sex between adult men was sentenced with prison in Germany. Then it was tolerated and meanwhile they can (kind of) marry and adopt children. Who knows what will be in 50 years. So the church would be very busy to modify its doctrine permanently in order to suit the peoples taste. That's not the job of the church. Its job is to offer a moral hold and be a stronghold, no matter what the time of the spirit is.

Of course, there are many things that can be discussed as for instance contraception and the problem of divorced and re-married people.

But I don't see a big problem here because one isn't obliged to follow every order of the church.

I am a roman catholic and divorced and re-married and I use contraception and I don't follow every order of the church, but I feel cosy in its lap all the same.

Now Ratzinger is pope. That's a quite different job and you will live to see that he will turn from a hardliner to a much softer specimen.

And the shot with the "Hitler Jugend" is a cheap one, because every child and boy was compelled to join otherwise the parents got in trouble.

The problem here is that the Catholic Church isn't even true to it's roots. The big issues today are about changes that occured after the church was in existance for hundreds of years.

Popes who married and had kids.

St. Peter
St. Felix III (2 kids)
St. Hormidas (1 son)
St. Silverus
Hadrian I (a daughter)
Clement IV (2 daughters
Felix V (1 son)

Six popes had illegitimate chilren.

Innocent VII
Alexander VI
Julius
Paul III
Pius IV
Gregory XIII

There is evidence that once women were priests.

In the 14th century women were still being ordained Priests, even though in 352 AD Council of Laodicea ruled women could not become priests.

Celebacy is a vow to the church-not to their god.

It Became church doctrinre in 1074 and confirmed in 1139 under pope Innocent II.

As to the new Pontif, His writings are well known. perhaps he may change but that still doesn't rule out what he was and did.

Let this new Pope rally Catholics worldwide AGAINST this unjust and profit driven war FOR the rich fought BY the poor.

THEN I will think him a good Pope.

Of course, THEN he will become very dead very quick.

Im none to optimistic about this new Pope.

I hope he doesn become a close friend of George W and friends...

Sincerely,

fredrick albury

There is no doubt that the church made grave mistakes in the past.

The ground crew of God are humans, and humans are normally sinful. This doesn't exclude member of the church, even the brass.

Ratzinger saw the actrocities of WW2. I seriously doubt that he will approve the war on Iraq or elsewhere. Like his predecessor he will denounce the war critize Bush.

Again, give him a chance. I think he will be a good pope.
