At risk of looking like a complete idiot

toshamc Apr 20, 2005 01:48 PM

I'm going to ask a stupid question (again).

I recently got some normal hatchlings, really young, about 45-50 grams a piece, with umbilicals, etc. Three of them have shed in the past few days(I'm assuming their first sheds). The first two skins looked like any other normal shed, the third skin I found this morning and it's completely clear, no sign of pattern or pigment. I'm in no way shape or form suggesting she's anything but a normal girl, but since it was different from the other two, I thought I'd ask some experts. Is this a normal occurance with hatchlings? I tried taking pictures of it (with my crapy camera) but the flash really washes it out.

Thanks -

I don't have any personal experience with this, but I have heard that you can get a clear shed from a normal ball at any stage of life, but it is just really unusual (probably more common in younger balls). If your hatchling continues to shed clear a few more times, then it is likely it will turn out to be hypomelanistic, but I wouldn't bet on it until you have seen several (3 or 4) clear sheds.

Thanks - I hadn't heard that, but it makes me feel better. I was starting to think there might be something wrong with her. I seriously doubt shes a hypo!
