How can you tell that this is an indigo? Why was the area burned? esp when a gopher tortoise hole was present (arn't they a vigorously protected species?)
What were the goals of the prescribed burn? Is the accidental "take" of an Indigo acceptable? Will the burn benefit the overall population of Drymarchon and Gopherus despite the loss of a few(?) individuals. I wonder how it managed to get burned? It seems like it should have just slipped down a burrow and let the fire pass by. I have found quite a few snakes burned by fires, some take cover and survive and others panic and dart into the inferno/hot air. I am an advocate of prescribed burning, but seeing a burned Drymarchon is heart breaking... How do the tortoises endure fires in that habitat?
what's the law on parts of protected species....be aware...
