Helix Thermostats

cmh7s Apr 20, 2005 05:50 PM

I have a boaphile rack. I want to get a helix thermostat to control it but need some help in knowing what to get. I am shopping at beanfarm (any alternate suggestions??)

So, the questions are:

What is the difference between the DBS1000 and the 1001 (Besides appearance and price)

If I get the DBS1000, should I get the grounded version? Why?

I want nighttime drop. I know I either need a timer or a photo sensor (I haven't decided which yet, any suggestions?).

If I get that timer on beanfarm.com that looks like a grey cord with a yellow plug, is that all I need to do night drops?

Thanks for all your help in advance. I just want to make an informed decision.

I have both but could not tell you the difference. I use the Basic system for my racks and 1000 for incubators.

I'm not sure what this is.

I decided to go with the timer because you ALWAYS need to access the snake room at night. Turn on the lights and guess what. Unless you install the sensor outdoors or something similar.

I have the "module" with night-time drop with my Basic. No night-time drop for the other as it's for uncubation.

Call the Bean Farm. They can help.

I ordered a DBS1000 this week from the Bean Farm. I have one already and it works well for one of my setups. I did buy the grounded cord because someone explained to me that one of the major racks out there (Freedom Breeder?) requires a grounded cord. Perhaps I'll buy a rack like this someday and it only cost a few extra bucks. I don't know much about the other model. Also I don't have a night drop setup and can't offer much help there either. One reason I continue to buy from the Bean Farm is that those folks are very knowledgeable about their products and keeping herps. I'd suggest you call their toll-free number and explain your situation and they'll explain what you could do. They've always been very helpful. Also, check out the website and see the "Contact" section for getting a freebie.
