My Blood still wont eat....

billykiesel Apr 20, 2005 07:04 PM

My female RED BLOOD still hasnt eaten since I got her. She is CAPTIVE RANCHED,probably wild caught. Ive heard their hard to feed. Ive tried everything from transferring her to a feeding tank to different temprature settings. Ive tried live and dead mice. Like I said before the guy I got her from had her in a cooling period. Feeding her ever other week. When I got her she was also in shed. Shes already shedded. Could it be after affects of just shedding or maybe the cooling period thing, I dont know.
Any advice will help.
Thank you

If she's wild caught try dipping the rodent in chicken broth before feeding. Or if you have access to chicks then you're all set. The only problem with that is once they get hooked on foul they are very difficult to switch. Once it takes a mouse or rat that has been dipped a couple of times she should switch over. Good luck-

Have you tried that before? Any success?
Thats real interesting, Ive never heard of that.
Just regular ol canned chicken broth?
Thanks

But I would use low or no sodium chicken broth and only use it if neccessary. They will still be able to smell the rodent so at some point they should start recognizing them as food. Good luck, Eric

Yes chicken broth works great, you can also try baby chick down or maybe even a baby chick if you can find them. Mmm taste like chicken!
