Any interesting tank setup ideas?

cornsrule Apr 20, 2005 07:36 PM

I have my 3 year old in a twenty gallon tank with a branch and two hides. Most of this year, he's been cruising around practically twenty-four hours a day looking for a way out and he seems so much happier when I do have him out. I'm hoping to find things I can put in his tank to make it a more interesting place for him. Any ideas?

Also, in the future I hope to get a larger tank for him to cruise around in. I know babies should be in smaller tanks to feel secure. Do adults also feel nervous if they're kept in tanks that are very large? Thanks!

I have put my 24-30" black rat snakes in 2'x4'x2' cages. They aren't scared at that size, I think they really enjoy the space. the reason neonates don't like big cages is because they're constantly thinking they'll get eaten. As they grow they don't feel that as much, so they're more willing to get out and such. which is why you'll see full grown rat and corn snakes in the wild climbing in trees along creeks you canoe down.

Personally, I think a 20L is too small for an adult corn.

An interesting idea that i'm about to do for my blue beauty snake is i'm going to make a cage out of luan doors. You know, those cheap pre-formed hollow doors you can get at home depot. I am going to get some 24" widex 80" long doors and mount them together to build a cage for my blue beauty. If you want more info let me know. I got this idea from Chris Harper over on the caging forum... I just priced the doors tonight at home depot. $21/each.

you could cut the doors and make them smaller. Would work great!

yea, i just recently put my 2 year old, 3 foot male ghost corn into a 40 gallon breeder size tank. he would cruse his 20 gallon long tank all the time too looking for a way out. i too think he was looking for a mate, this was last year, but he also looked cramped in the 20 long. he likes his 40 gallon much better. he's got room now!

Thanks a ton you guys! I'd been told 20 liters was plenty big for an adult corn, but he definately looks cramped. I'll check out the caging site for information on that hollow door idea.
