I recommend you take a look at a male jungle carpet python (morelia spilota cheynei). They will grow to about 6 feet, some max at about 9, but this is pretty rare. They are a really well tempered snake, requiring a humidity of about 50%, with heats from 75 to 85, with a 90 basking spot.

They are really easy to handle, and are generally eating machines. Some have trouble switching to rats, but if you get them onto it early, it's okay.

You need to consider where you're going to be keeping the snake, and what it will be housed in.

Please, before you buy any snake, do all the reading you can! Find out everything you could possibly need to know. Feeding/Temps/Humidity/temperaments(generally)/Max Size/Prone diseases/tank requirements.... how to deal with non-feeders... how to deal with mites...

And have everything ready for when you take the snake home.

So, educate yourself. That way you will be able to enjoy the snake without stressing too much about all the little problems people stumble across.
