hello, unfortunately my baby EtB has developed mouth rot and a respiratory infection. My Question is should I clean it mouth out with hydrogen peroxide every day, every other day, or is once enough?
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks

If your dealing with an RI as well, the vet is in order! A culture should be taken in order to determine what and how much antibiotic is necessary. Depending on the size, you may have to use a nebulizer instead of injection.

Thanks for your response. I spoke to my vet and he instructed me to give it a single drop of baytril and and apply hydrogen peroxid. so ill try this for a few days and see if it gets better.
Thanks again

Interesting. The vet told you to give baytril orally? Is this for the RI?

Becuase of the large amount of surface area in their mouths, the most efficient method for treating mouthrot in emeralds is with swabbing it down with a diluted chlorhexidine solution (Nolvasan). You should swab daily for about a week.

Sounds like the mouthrot is a secondary infection to the upper respiratory infection your animal is experiencing. For this you will definitely need multiple shots of baytril which your veterinarian should administer.

Oral delivery or "öne drop" will not be sufficient in delivering the nedicine so you will have to call your vet and tell him this.

Good luck

thank you for your replies. My vet does not specialize in reptile but has worked on many. I spoke with him again and he told me that while injecting Baytril was better giving it orally also works. I personally don't like needles so i stay away from them as much as possible. In the past this has worked so i figured i'd try is again. I' m happy to say my snakes are getting better. The one with only a RI has gotten better he no longer salivates exessivly, and now keeps his mouth closed at all time. The other with RI and mouth rot seems to be getting better. he is not completely better but I can see some improvements and hopefully by the end of the week the will both be back on track.
Thank you all again for your help.
