Humidity/reply 2 uth

phiber_optikx Apr 21, 2005 02:52 AM

The humidity in my area is usually between 40-76% so do I need to mist the cage still? sw MO is a very humid place. I don't have a humidity guage because the pet shop was out. They should have some by the end of the week. But my question is if the humidity is that high do I even need to bother misting the cage ever so often? ALSO, in response to the uth vs. heat lamp thread a few lines down... I am against lamps unless it is winter because yesterday it was a little cooler outside and she just ate so I figured I would turn on the lamp. I turned it on about 3 p.m. and went to work. I got home around 2 a.m. and checked the thermometer and it was 105 f. in the tank (on the warm side) She was fine but that still gave me quite a scare. So that is why I prefer uth instead of a bulb!

I don't mist corns at all. In fact, I don't mist any of my snakes. If they need higher humidity I provide a humid hide for them. Damp moss in a closed hide with just an entry. I do let it dry out now and then and or replace it every couple months. Moss is really resistant to mildew and molds so it isn't an issue. And this way your snake has a choice about getting dry if it wants.
