Collared not eating

terrimcc Apr 21, 2005 06:06 AM

My collarded lizard seems to have lost his appetite over the past couple of weeks, I have only had him (I think he is a him could be a her) since October so I have a lot of things to learn yet!
Does anyone know why this would be?

Check the temperature first, basking spot should be 100-105. These lizards like it hot.

One of my lizards does is wild caught and got sick of eating crickets, you might want to try variety. She particularly likes moths, superworms, and grasshoppers. If your lizard is still a baby, stay away from the superworms.

Its possible your lizard has parasites too. You might try getting a fecal done by a herp vet.

If it was eating normally before april, this may be because your UVB bulb isnt generating enough UVB waves(Vitamin D).

October to april is 6 months ...

Repti-glo fluorescent bulb last for 6 months ... after that, there's a risk that calcium isnt properly metabolished.

Make sure to buy a new bulb every 6 month if youre not using mercury vapor lamp.

You may try to let your lizard get "real" sun for a several hours as a start.
