FBT question

rubymaser Apr 21, 2005 07:58 AM

Hi,
I recently adopted 2 fire belly toads. They are in a 10 gallon and have lived together for years. I think one is male and the other female, because I only hear one chirping. The male is fatter than the female, and he's constantly attacking her (at least 3-4x a day). Should I seperate them?
Thanks,
Kathlyn

What kind of "attacking" is going on? Many times when a male and a female are housed together, the male establishes dominance. Either that or the male is simply attempting to reproduce with the female (if the male is jumping on the female's back). If you believe the activity to be harmful, one of the best ways to help your female fire belly is to provide more places to hide in the aquarium. The female will be less stressed with more places to seek refuge in your tank. Good luck!
