More Scuttlebutt (pics included)

Now I'm wondering if part of why Scuttlebutt has seemed under the weather is that he's been about to shed - he's peeling like a banana. Now that it's underway, he's moving around more and eating regularly. He's gained weight, too. Poor guy - today when I went in with everyone's breakfast, he was furiously scrubbing his head against a rock. It would be cute if I didn't feel so bad for him!

That means 5 out of 6 are in shed. What a cranky lot of lizards.

poor little guy! they do look very uncomfortable, especially when it is around their heads like that! you must have a cranky bunch of lizards with that many in shed. do you get to hold any of them?

No, I leave them alone when they're shedding for the most part. They might get a head rub, though. I don't handle any of my uros very much - Spike and Tank are the friendliest, and will climb up my arm sometimes, so they get to come out of the cage then.

What do u feed ur uros? I am new to this and I need to know some staple foods. Mine doesn't really seem to like turnip greens but he eats carrots. He will even chase the carrots if i put them in front of him. Does he look healthy to u?

He looks healthy in the picture. You can tell if your guy is too thin if his hipbones protrude up or if the base of his tail doesn't have a proper pad of fat stored on it.

Variety is the key to feeding these guys to get them all the vitamins they need. I don't feed any one thing every day, but rotate between several choices depending on what's available. I feed mostly greens, with a smaller amount of vegetable matter. Dry food is available to them all of the time. Fruits and flowers I offer as treats. I don't often feed insects, but those should be considered treats, too, if you use them.

My favorite choices for greens include dandelion greens, mustard greens, turnip greens (almost impossible to find here), collard greens, endive, escarole, bok choy, arugula, watercress, radicchio (for color).

My second choices (for variety or if I can't find my favorites) include nappa cabbage and kale.

Avoid spinach, chard, and beet greens.

Good veggies include green beans (chopped), green peas, lima beans, winter squash (shredded), parsnip, etc. Carrot's fine in small amounts.

Hope that helps - maybe other folks will chime in with what they like to use.
