advice needed for temp control

nechushtan Apr 21, 2005 04:27 PM

My family is preparing to go on vacation for what may be the hottest part of the summer and we have two species which prefer colder temps (E. Schrenki & Z. Longissimus). We have no basement and short of keeping the AC on in the house there is nowhere to keep our babies (04's) which I can guarantee will stay in the 70's - 80's. In fact the temps may reach 100 inside. Any thoughts?

Keep their cages on the floor in a room that receives as little sunlight as possible. Start paying attention to this now.

You can also drape Reflectix insulation over the cages. This will block a surprising amout of radiant energy. It's very similar technology as fire fighters use when they get trapped - they cover themselves with foil-covered blankets to block the radiant energy.

Lastly, an ultrasonic humidifier setup to direct fog into the cage will do an amazing job of cooling the cage down.

And I don't mean those cheap foggers made for reptiles, I mean the actual ultrsonic humidifiers made for homes. You can direct the fog with either aquarium tubing or PVC. It depends on the design.
